IEWB-DYN Lab 5 - IGP Highlights
Sun, 17 Feb 2008 13:46:26 +0000
The IGP section again, was quite straight forward, with the usual OSPF over FR shenanigans going on, where by not being able to change one of the interface types, so have to match the others accordingly.
OSPF
This was a simple hub and spoke setup, with a NON_BROADCAST interface at the hub that couldn’t be changed. ...]

Trunking physical switch to CCIE R&S Dynamips lab
Thu, 10 Apr 2008 15:48:13 +0000
i am trying to add a Catalyst 3560 (SW5, ignore SW6 for now) switch to my Dynamips lab using only one NIC. SW5 will connect to a NIC that will be bridged to ETHSW1 to connecting a physical network to the R&S lab. (The other NIC will be connected to SW6 and bridge that ...]
countdown from 3!
Three more days folks, three more days to my next CCIE R&S lab attempt.
What had I prepared so far? DocCD, some 'basic' scenarios for technologies, DocCD, some workbook scenarios and ...
DocCD.
Why on earth did I have more DocCD as part of my preparation this time? Because that was what I missed last
attempt. I have had several 'cramming' scenario sessions with lack of DocCD attempt to find the solutions. Honestly,
quite a lot of answers tips and guides are available from DocCD.
I just took one attempt and I don't think this is good 'expertise' information on the lab preparation. However,
from various sessions doing some readings either from discussion groups, VoD, etc on exam preparation, a lot of them
keep mentioning the DocCD.
In my last attempt, I tried my best not to open DocCD at all! Why is that??? It would be better to have no DocCD
and knowing from the router's straight away. I was totally wrong! DocCD has been provided purposely for assisting the
configuration tasks. But, it would be nice to access DocCD for anything other than 'ordinary' tasks. Say: VLANs, VTP
config, frame relay, OSPF, BGP, multicast, etc. that is the 'basic' configuration. A slightly more 'advanced'
configuration might also be able to be configuread without looking at DocCD. Anything beyond than that point, only
experienced would be able to provide the answer without looking at the DocCD (and I really mean experienced people).
As for me, those 'more advanced' configuration are not always happenign in my experience. However, I am confident I
could always find it in the DocCD. That is the purpose of the DocCD anyway :)
We'll see what would happen in this next round of attempt. From the last attempt and the evaluation afterwards, I
am just confident I could 'smell' my number already ;)
BGP essentials: Non-transit AS over on Cisco IOS Hints and tricks
Tue, 08 Apr 2008 12:06:25 +0000
BGP reading is always good!
“Sometimes I find the information on the Internet that is so far from the facts that it might actually hurt someone. For example, the configuration in this post supposedly prevents you from becoming a transit AS (which is a really bad idea if you’re a multi-homed end-user). Actually, it achieves the ...]
Bridging the gap between 3550 and 3560 QoS: Part II
Wed, 26 Mar 2008 16:48:20 +0000
Classification, Policing and Marking on the 3560 model.
As we remember, 3560 uses the concept of internal QoS label, which contains both the CoS and DSCP values for a packet. Only one value is actually taken (trusted) from the packet or interface (either CoS or DSCP), and the other one is deduced using the configurable mapping ...]
How do I compute complex wildcard masks for access-lists?
Wed, 26 Dec 2007 20:27:08 +0000
Access-list address and wildcard pair calculations are based
around the AND and XOR logic gates.
AND: The output is high only when both inputs A and B are high.
A AND B
______________
| A | B | out |
| 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 0 | 1 | 0 |
